Thing #7

Flickr was very easy to use and navigate through. I got so many great results of my keyword "lighthouse". I also looked up a few other words and got wonderful results for them also. I have heard of flickr before, but did not know exactly what it was until now. I will definitely use it in the future. I chose to look up lighthouses because I believe they are so beautiful. They are so peaceful. I have been to a couple and I loved being able to get that close to them.

It is by Darvin Atkeson and was uploaded onto flickr by him on June 12, 2008.

Thing #6

I chose to look at the iFoods Look and Taste site because I am always looking for new recipes to try. I found the site very easy to maneuver through and it had a lot of yummy recipes. I liked how the recipes were divided up in types like Mexican or Bread. I also liked how it had video recipes. This is good for those who like to watch someone else do it and follow them. I believe this would be a good site for a high school cooking class or even a measurement activity.

Thing #5

I read the Web 2.0: A Guide for Teachers. I found it interesting and true that it stated that things such as libraries and classrooms have been replaced by the web. I also believe that even though we have a lot of technology today, there will be much more to come. I believe this could be a good thing as well as a bad thing. Having instant access is nice, but classroom interaction is still needed.
I also read New Literacies: Enrichment or Essential?. I thought the writer produced a lot of interesting questions. I did like how the writer stated that students already use blogging and other interactive web tools and asked how teachers can use this interest to enhance the students writing skills and such.
School 2.0, to me, means that schooling would be almost completely web-based. As I said earlier, I believe it is a good thing to keep up with the times, but physical interaction is still needed. I believe schools could be more web-based, but need to keep the instructional time. Teachers have good knowledge that they can and will share with their students.

Thing #3

I honestly could not come up with a lot of ways to use a blog in a classroom. I think it would be a good way for students to communicate with each other and to communicate with their teacher. They could discuss topics that they need help on. It can be a way for the students to help each other. I have never used one before this class, but I always thought that they were just a way to communicate with others socially. I looked at the suggestions from Anne Davis and found that there are a lot of good uses for a blog in the classroom setting. The one that stuck out the most to me is that you can use the blog to reflect on your teaching by creating a journal type blog. I think this is good because everyone needs to reflect on what they did and how they could improve.

Thing #2

I simply used my name as my posting name. To be honest, I was more concerned about getting it done correctly than coming up with a creative name. The blog itself was not hard for me to create. I am sure that the avatar is simple to create for most people, but that took me forever to figure out. I had a very hard time figuring out how to add the avatar to my blog. I am not very computer oriented. I did though, enjoy creating my avatar. I like being creative with color and such. I did for the most part model it after myself. I chose colors that I like and the clothes that I liked the best. It took me some time, but I like my finished product and believe that it represents me. I do think that it could be fun to blog and create avatars and such, but it was very frustrating to figure out for me. Now that I have broken the ice on creating blogs, I believe it can be more fun and easier.

Thing #1

I thought that the habit #71/2 was the easiest to follow. I believe that most people do not think that by having fun, they are keeping their minds active. I have heard this before and think that it is very true. Just because we are adults does not mean that we can not be creative and have fun. You do not have to work to have fun, just play! I thought that habit #3 is the hardest for me. When a problem arises, I think of a crisis, not of a challenge. I do believe that you can learn from your problems, but I have a hard time seeing problems as a chance to learn. I do not have a lot of knowledge about technology, so I am hoping to learn about more complex webtools. I think it will be a challenge, but good to know. I like that you can be creative with your blog and profile. I d0 not think that it was very hard to set up the blog, but not really simple either. I think it will be easier to post now that it is set up.
